Then you can route SPAN to show both spectrums You can put your mix on one track and then put your reference on on another and change the reference from channels 1/2 to 3/4.

So you can listen to your reference and hear that it has more low end (for example) then compare the spectrums and see what frequencies you are lacking at. Next thing you can do is use a spectrum analyzer with a reference. It should become obvious that your mix is much darker or much brighter or it's missing low end.
